Atari Eternity Series
Ink on Korean Mulberry Paper (Hanji)
For example I am appropriating digital visual forms and icons that became part of human daily life from the 1970ies. The images derive from the displays of digital quartz watches or graphics from Atari home video game consoles (e.g. Pong). The Atari Eternity Series deals with archiving digital data. Data migration is following technological advances in data storage.
It requires transitions from Magnetic Tape to Laser Discs to Hard Disks and so on. I direct this migration into an anachronistic, non-digital, but durable form (ink and paper). I make pictures from those graphics using organic materials that may be conserved for 1000 to 2000 years.
